Enjoy and share the garden!
Gardens are places for people to be happy in. We can make sure we’re doing our bit for the climate, but we don’t have to be all worthy about it. We can smell the roses. We can invite family and friends round and enjoy each other’s company, our beautiful plants, and the privilege of sharing our gardens with wild animals who choose to visit as well. We can be creative, whether that’s by the way we design our garden, or making things such as garden furniture, or turning craft plants like hazel and bamboo into things we can use in our homes, such as baskets. We can contribute to research by being citizen scientists – a good place to start is with OPAL, the Open Air Laboratory project.
And perhaps the more we enjoy our own places, the less need we’ll feel to blow all our good work to bits by jetting off to escape halfway round the world…
